Kayaking in Tenerife

Sea kayaking in Tenerife happens on the south coast, not on the exposed north cliffs. This list has four guided trips: the Los Gigantes cliff, the Palm Mar shelf (with snorkel on pages that say so) and the Los Cristianos bay toward Guaza (turtles on the page that names them).

Trips last 2–3 hours; the cheapest card on this list starts from €30 (confirm on the page). You do not need to have paddled before. For whales, surf or diving, use the other hubs; this page is kayak only.

This page compares 4 bookable options. Lowest listed price: €30. Time on the activity runs 2 h–3 h. Meeting points include Palm Mar. The closed price and the meeting point are on each activity page.

Trips you can book

4 experiences

The four trips

There are four listings. This is not an island-wide catalogue; it is a short south-coast comparison.

Los Gigantes (cliff): about 2 h; from about €30 on a recent list. Wall scenery; less snorkel stop. Best if you want to paddle under the cliff. Palm Mar with snorkel: about 2–3 h; from about €38. Short and repeatable. Palm Mar group: about 2–3 h; from about €37; same area, group format. Los Cristianos with turtle snorkel: about 3 h; from about €42; toward Guaza; sighting not guaranteed.

Starting prices move with the date; the final price is on the page. If you want the north coast, it is not on this hub: open /tenerife/actividades-acuaticas/.

Which coast you are booking

Los Gigantes is more vertical cliff photos; check the meeting point (not the same as central Adeje). Palm Mar is a specific shelf; it is not Los Cristianos. Los Cristianos is a busier bay and parking; leave margin.

Crossing from Palm Mar to Los Cristianos or Gigantes at south-coast rush hour eats the gap between two bookings. One kayak day is usually enough.

Season, timing and sea state

Favour calm seas: the guide calls it at the harbour. An early start often means better water and room for another activity mid-afternoon (for example whales from another harbour, not at the same hour). Wind or swell can cancel; rebook, do not force it.

We do not invent water temperature or fixed species. If the page mentions turtles, that is the planned stop, not a zoo promise.

What to bring and fitness level

Swimsuit, towel, water-resistant sun protection, water, shoes you can get wet and a light layer if you start cool. A vest is part of the guided trip.

Level: set up for people who have not paddled. If a page requires swimming for the snorkel, that rule wins. With a bad back or reduced mobility, ask the operator first: getting in and out of the kayak is not a pier stroll.

Children and safety

Two-hour trips usually fit before a longer 3-hour snorkel. Read the minimum age on the page. Group kayak at Palm Mar can be more predictable than a first windy day at Gigantes.

You go with a guide. The sea is not a pool. If they cancel, pick another slot; do not book kayak and a boat with half an hour between different harbours.

Common mistakes

Thinking MMG Tenerife has many kayak routes: there are four. Mixing up Palm Mar, Los Cristianos and Los Gigantes. Booking kayak and whales at the same hour.

Choosing Gigantes for the photo without checking if you want snorkel. Assuming turtles are guaranteed in Los Cristianos. Treating this page as unguided rental: the list is guided trips.

How to combine with other plans

Morning kayak plus mid-afternoon whales can work if you leave real time between harbours (see /tenerife/cetaceos/ or /tenerife/actividades-acuaticas/). Do not stack two kayaks in the same block. Surf or a try dive: better on another water day.

If you only want the cliff without paddling, a Los Gigantes boat ride may be enough. Four pages cover three places: we do not invent coves that are not on the list. If none fit, compare on water activities.

Quick comparison

Los Gigantes: paddle under the cliff; little stop. About 2 h. From about €30 (list; confirm). Easy to moderate. Best for vertical scenery.

Palm Mar (snorkel): shelf and snorkel. About 2–3 h. From about €38. Easy. Best for first paddle.

Palm Mar (group): same area, group format. About 2–3 h. From about €37. Easy. Best for groups.

Los Cristianos (turtles): bay and snorkel toward Guaza. About 3 h. From about €42. Easy to moderate. Best for snorkel; turtles not guaranteed.

Questions

Do I need to know how to kayak in Tenerife?
No. The trips in this list are guided and set up for people who have not paddled before. A vest is part of the activity.
Where do kayak trips leave from in Tenerife?
The south coast: Los Gigantes, Palm Mar and Los Cristianos. There are only four pages; the exact meeting point is on each one. The north is not on this hub.
Is snorkelling included?
On the pages that say so in the title, yes: Palm Mar and the turtle trip in Los Cristianos. The Los Gigantes paddle is mainly the cliff.
Will I always see turtles in Los Cristianos?
It is not guaranteed. The page plans a snorkel stop; the sea and the day decide.
Los Gigantes or Palm Mar?
Gigantes if you want the cliff (about 2 h). Palm Mar if you want a shorter trip with snorkel (about 2–3 h). They are not the same harbour.
Can I rent a kayak on my own from this list?
No. These are guided group trips, not unguided rental.
Can I do kayak and a whale trip on the same day?
Yes if you leave real time between harbours (morning and mid-afternoon). Not at the same hour. Also check the water-activities hub.
Why are there only four options?
Because only those kayak listings sit on the south list today. We do not invent routes. If none fit, compare on /tenerife/actividades-acuaticas/.
How many kayaking options are listed in Tenerife?
4. Each one links to its own page, with the meeting point and the booking calendar.
What is the lowest listed price for kayaking in Tenerife?
€30. That is the cheapest page in this list, not a promise that every date costs the same. The final price is on the activity.
